Could anybody who has experience with “panic or anxiety attacks” please describe what they are like?

Question by Ronald S: Could anybody who has experience with “panic or anxiety attacks” please describe what they are like?
I am having a difficult time understanding this.
I have heard that some people cant even leave far from home because they are afraid of having another “panic attack”.

Please anyone who has experience with this condition, would you please desribe them for me?

what is it like? what do they think about that makes them afraid?
What usually triggers them?

how long does it take to go away?
and what is the best cure for them? (Is there one??)
Also , what is usually the root cause of this condition??

How often, do they occur in the average sufferer??

a long time ago i used to have cash register jobs and i was once a deli girl. I would get panic attacks when i would have a lot of frustrated customers in line all staring at me and I was glued to that spot behind the register with no way out to calm myself down. . at first i would wonder why it bothered me a little and after a while it just got so bad that i ran out of the store when people just stood there staring at me. this is what a panic attack feels like. You start to sweat, lose concentration, breath faster, get very red faced and than people say why is your face red. Which of course made it redder. And you feel very unfocused. And people notice all that and focus more on you and of course it makes it worse. So my way to get over my attacks is get a nursing position where i am not glued to one spot all day. I found out that moving around and constantly changing my scenery helps me be better focused and have less panic attacks.

What do you think? Answer below!

  1. panic attacks usually come on suddenly with or without warning and they feel like you are going to die. Yur heart starts to POUND in your chest, your stomach has more than what people call butterflies, You get this horrible feeling come over you as if something terrible is going to happen and you cant stop it. You feel like your going to die any moment. It makes your entire body so exhausted and you need to lay down and sleep after one because the adrenaline rush when you get one is worse than a near miss car accident or riding a rollercoaster.

There is no specific trigger as it is different for everyone. Although stress is usually a factor. But not the actual trigger.

THERE IS NO CURE ONLY MANAGEMENT. Medications help to alleviate episodes. But if you stop taking your medication you will have them again. You can also use relaxation techniques to help but again there is no cure.

as far as a root cause usually it runs in the family but sometimes a traumatic event may trigger it.

  2. actually, i am prone to panic attacks and believe it or not, they usually occur around water. i have been told by a previous therapist that this is a common factor in many people. when the panic starts, its like “i think i am dying” its a strange sensation. i forget where i am, and most importantly who i am….. then my heart starts racing, and i usually hyperventilate. the feeling subsides and i am fine… they are scary..
