Medication Is Not Lasting Anxiety Help

Is medication really the best answer to anxiety help out there or is there a better solution? We live in a world where people are reliant on medication to fix practically any health problem. Most people take an aspirin for a mild headache without a batter of an eyelid. We seldom consider what painkillers contain and if they could actually be bad for us. We don’t even think why we have a headache in the first place, we just want it gone.

This seems to be our approach for any illness or disorder; forget about what caused it, just make it go away. Those looking for anxiety help, want a quick answer and a lot of the time their doctors are willing to prescribe anxiety medication. One rather big snag on anxiety medication is that it only treats the symptoms. Are we supposed to take medication forever?

Don’t expect anxiety medication to solve your problems. Long term use of anxiety medication is very common in sufferers but they are not designed to be used this way. In many cases anxiety medication has actually worsened cases of anxiety in people. Because of their addictive nature, patients are likely to become reliant on them.

Long term users find it extremely difficult to go on with their day without taking something. Taking medication is habit forming and only creates more negative beliefs and habits. Moreover, the body gradually builds tolerance to medication which reduces their effectiveness over time. People with anxiety might frequently change medication, unable to attain anxiety help that is lasting.

You might experience relief from anxiety symptoms but be warned there can be side effects from taking medication. Common side effects include dizziness, drowsiness and disorientation; a recipe for disaster when driving or operating heavy machinery. By far the most successful anxiety help available is therapy. It’s important to tackle the root cause of an anxiety disorder and be prepared to make personal changes for permanent relief.

Cognitive behavioral therapy focuses mostly on confronting irrational thoughts, behaviors and beliefs. You may also learn how to cope with anxiety and face your fears. For therapy to be successful, it’s essential that a sufferer makes an effort to practice what is being taught and make any recommended changes to their lifestyle. As well as therapy, one should be looking after their physical health; getting good sleep, exercising and eating healthily can all contribute to the healing process.

Extra anxiety help in the form of alternative therapy can be used in combination to produce faster results. Alternative and complimentary therapy such as acupuncture and aromatherapy can greatly reduce stress and anxiety. In place of medication, anxiety sufferers can also consider an herbal remedy such as valerian and ginseng. Herbal remedies are safer than medication but they still do not tackle the underlying cause of anxiety.

Learn How to Cure Panic Attacks

It is normal for a person to feel panic but for some this becomes uncontrolled and turns in to a full blown panic attack. When this happens to you, don’t be alarmed because it is curable and there are ways on how to cure panic attacks. You have to learn what the symptoms are as well as the causes of the panic attacks.

Let’s go over the symptoms of a panic attack:

Sweating, or trembling or shaking
Nausea or abdominal distress
Palpitations, or accelerated heart rate
Feeling the need to hide or escape
Weakness in the knees
Shortness of breath or smothering and sensation of choking
Feeling dizzy, unsteady, lightheaded, or faint
Fear of dying
Chills or hot flashes
Confusion and blank mind

Panic attacks occur mainly due to stress. There is no particular reason why they happen. Major life transitions often triggers the panic attack episodes. Examples are getting a new job, relocation, having a baby, getting married, graduating from college.

Severe stress caused by a death in the family or a loved one or divorce is also a reason why panic disorders happen to a person.

Medical and other physical conditions may also cause these attacks because being sick or handicap causes so much stress.

One you recognized that what you are going through is not just plain fear but a panic attack, consult a doctor to prevent the attacks to develop further.

Recommended treatments for panic attack or panic disorder:

1. Natural remedies

Many remedies are known on how to cure panic attacks. Home remedies include drinking of herbal juices and vitamin therapy. Some resort to yoga and meditation as well as other forms of physical activities.

Avoiding stressful situations that may cause the panic attack should be made. Lifestyle changes are vital to find your best way to cure panic attacks.

2. Taking prescribed medication

Medication can be used to temporarily control or reduce some of the symptoms; however, it doesn’t treat or resolve the problem. Medication can be useful in severe cases, but it should not be the only treatment pursued. Medication is most effective when combined with other treatments, such as therapy and lifestyle changes, that address the underlying causes of panic disorder. Anti-depressants and anti-anxiety medicines are given to reduce or avert occurrence of panic attacks.

Those who suffer from panic attacks should try the natural way before using prescribed medication.

3. Effective Therapy Treatment

If you’re suffering from panic disorder, therapy can teach you how to prevent and cope with panic attacks. Even a short course of treatment can be of help:

Cognitive behavioral therapy is generally viewed as the most effective form of treatment for panic attacks, panic disorder, and agoraphobia. Cognitive behavioral therapy focuses on the thinking patterns and behaviors that are sustaining or triggering the panic attacks. It helps you look at your fears in a more realistic light.
In exposure therapy for panic disorder, you are exposed to the physical sensations of panic in a safe and controlled environment, giving you the opportunity to learn healthier ways of coping. These different exercises cause sensations similar to the symptoms of panic. With each exposure, you become less afraid of these internal bodily sensations and feel a greater sense of control over your panic.

Acknowledging that there is a problem is the first step on how to cure panic attacks. Knowing what causes the episodes and avoiding them is one step forward to its cure.

Neal Sabo had the same problem for years and has found a way to cure panic attacks without medication.

Question by : Anxiety disorders: psychological or biological?
What I’m asking is, is there a biological basis for my anxiety “disorder” or is it just the way I think? If you looked at my brain, would there be anything different about it than the “average” person’s brain? Can I be “cured” from generalized anxiety disorder with just cognitive behavioral therapy or do I need medication?

Best answer:

Answer by Tyler Durden
Well, you’re asking a quesiton that has caused arguments by mental health professionals for years: the old Nature vs. Nurture dilemna. But the truth is: anxiety or depression can be either a matter of conditioning or an acutal chemical imbalance of one of the many neurotransmitters in the brain, like serotonin or dopamine.
Many therapists use a combo of cognitive therapy AND medication. Depends on the case. For example: some people may be so paralyzed by anxiety brought on by the chemical imbalance that they CAN’T follow cognitive therapy instructions.
FOr you, the best answer is to simply see a therapist and tell him/her your symptoms, and let the pros decide. And it won;t hurt to try a light med at first. Ask about Propanolol.

What is easy about panic attacks? In particular, what could be easy about curing panic attacks?

People talk about these attacks like they are separate from anxiety. They aren’t.

But there is one outstanding difference about general anxiety as compared to these attacks.

You can cure panic attacks. However, in my opinion you CAN”T cure anxiety, but you can lower it to a point that it is easily tolerable.

So, think about this…anxiety is fear. Panic attacks are super-anxiety. Still fear. I guess you could say that panic attacks are super-fear. Fear gone out of control.

For me it went like this. I would have a business meeting scheduled. I don’t know why I set up business meetings because, during my period of ongoing attacks, I was terrified of the idea of having a panic attack in the meeting.

I would walk into a business meeting afraid that an attack was inevitable. And, sure enough, a panic attack would ensue.

I would make all kinds of excuses for why I was sweating profusely but that didn’t work to lower my panic attack. I think it maybe made it worse.

I knew my business associates thought I was weird or at least behaving oddly, but for some reason I couldn’t level with them. I just couldn’t explain it.

I didn’t contribute much to our meetings, since I could barely hang on to the conversation due to insane thoughts racing around in my head.

This situation was becoming intolerable. I had been having these attacks and the generally elevated anxieties for 6 years! It had the potential to wreck my business and my life, certainly my social life.

Then, one day, as I was stopped at an intersection it came to me. I wanted to cure panic attacks and while I was thinking about it I became aware of the fact that I had endured hundreds of these attacks and, as far as I could see, I wasn’t hurt.

I was unharmed physically, at least, and my mental state hadn’t gotten worse so I came to the conclusion that these panic attacks weren’t all that dangerous, they were just fear gone out of control, and that, if I didn’t fear them, that would be the end of them.

I didn’t realize at the time that I had stumbled onto the key thing that will enable a person to walk away from panic attacks.

My big mystery was how to pull THAT off!

Believe it or not, I did it by realizing, all at once, that the attacks were not dangerous, that they were capable of ruining my life, and that I was mad. As in angry. I hated the fact that I had six years of my life fouled up by these pernicious attacks.

I think there are far better ways to cure panic attacks than to go through all I had to go through, but I made it out.

Because of what I had realized now and the anger I felt, I was not afraid of these things anymore. Actually, I was anticipating the next time a panic attack tried to rear it’s ugly head because I was going to kick it off. I was just going to seize that attack and throw it off the train! I never got the chance. It was over.

Later I found out that the key to curing panic attacks is enabling a sufferer to get to the point of no longer fearing the attacks. It worked for me!

You can get your life back!

How about getting rid of your fear of panic attacks!

You would be surprised at how many people visit the emergency room because of a heart attack when the reality is they are only experiencing a panic attack. That will give you an idea of how intense the symptoms of a panic attack can be.

First let’s look at the different physical symptoms that indicate you might be having a panic attack.

Shortness of breath

Trembling or shaking

Sweating

Tightness of the chest

Inability to focus or sit still

Chills or hot flashes

Not only do people experience physical symptoms with panic attacks, but there are psychological symptoms as well. Here is a list of the most common psychological symptoms people experience when having a panic attack or experience while expecting a panic attack to happen:

Fear of losing control

Fear of dying

Agoraphobia or fear of public places

Feelings of unreality

Depression

Potential tendency to turn to substance abuse

For people dealing with recurring panic attacks it can be difficult for family members or loved ones to fully understand what you are going through if they have never experienced a panic attack before.

Sometimes you may feel like you are forced to face the panic attacks alone because your closest friends and family may think you are simply trying to get attention or may quickly lose patience with you because they don’t see it as a big problem.

It’s important to understand that you are not alone in your dealings with panic attacks or anxiety disorder. Many people commonly experience these types of symptoms throughout their lives. Some more than others, but you are not as alone as you may think you are when dealing with these type of problems.

Rest assured panic attacks are not as life threatening as some people think them to be. The cure for panic attacks lies in how you handle the panic attack symptoms. Controlling your thoughts is the key to controlling the power the symptoms have over your mind and body.

If you are unsure whether or not the symptoms are from a panic attack it is a good idea to visit your doctor to get checked out. Even if you are absolutely sure you are experiencing a panic attack it doesn’t hurt to have a doctor investigate the symptoms you are experiencing.

Most importantly remember that panic attacks can be treated without the use of medication, and most people just need someone to help guide them in the right direction.
